To help MSPs and IT Service Providers deliver business-centric revenue-producing vCIO services to their clientele without the commitment and challenge of adding an expensive full-time, high-level IT business executive.
Get your vCIO program ramped up immediately or extend and expand your current capabilities with additional bench strength by leveraging our experienced professionals who leverage our repeatable vCIO process framework that ensures high-value client relationships and improved revenue performance for your MSP business.
It all begins with a thorough understanding of the client's business objectives. The goal is to discover, understand, and assess the client's business objectives and the challenges they face. Areas reviewed include:
Capturing the Client's Top Business Objectives
Identifying the Client's Strategic Intentions
Extracting the Client's Desired Business Outcomes
Understanding the Business Challenges the Client is Facing
We are not looking to overwhelm the client with a ton of questions, rather we are looking to have an executive conversation and begin the process of gaining an initial view of the client's business.
Next, we look to gain a deeper understanding of the client's business. The goal is to discover, understand, and assess the client's business structure and operating model. Areas covered include:
Leveraging the Client Discovery and Assessment Framework
Framing the Client's Business Model
Understanding the Client's Key Economic Drivers and Metrics
Identifying the Client's Risk Tolerance Acceptance Level
Understanding the Client's Cybersecurity Readiness and BC / DR Plan
At this juncture, we have a clear picture of the client's most important objectives, what challenges are impeding progress, the direction the business is heading, and how the organization operates & measures their progress.
We then proceed to your delivery team, performing or updating the IT Review. The intent is to capture the current state of the client's existing IT Estate. Key activities include:
Leveraging vCIO Toolbox to Capture all IT Assets
Assessing the Current Health and Readiness of the IT Infrastructure
Outlining Cybersecurity, Compliance, and Business Continuity Readiness
Framing Alignment of MSP Technology Stack and IT Estate
Capture areas of Risk and Issues that could cause Immediate Downtime
We are striving to develop a clear picture of where the IT environment stands today, plus understand if any serious deficiencies could negatively impact the client's business operations.
Now that we have a solid picture of both the client's business and their current IT infrastructure, it's time to draft our initial IT strategy and plan. This is a simple construct that allows us to frame our initial recommendations, map the recommendations to the client's business objectives, and rationalize how the IT Roadmap will flow. Areas to be addressed include:
Outlining Key Elements Uncovered.
Tying IT Actions to the Client's Strategic Intentions and Objectives
Highlighting Desired Results & Outcomes
Showing Return, and Impact of Proposed Initiatives
This short outline of the IT strategy and approach that will be taken is used in conjunction with the IT Roadmap to clearly show the client why they need to act on recommendations.
The roadmap defines and details all identified initiatives that should be considered by the client over the next 2 - 3 years. The roadmap provides an easy-to-digest view of the recommendations that should be considered based on impact and alignment. The key elements include:
Key Initiatives Required to Meet Objectives or Reduce Client Risk
Timeline of when Initiatives should be Implemented
Budgetary Outline of Investments Required by Month
Both Recurring & Non-Recurring Investments are Depicted
Alignment Progress with Client Business Improvement
The purpose of the Strategic Business Review (SBR) is to regularly meet with the client to assess any changes in the client's business, review progress made on all in-flight or completed initiatives, and make adjustments to the plan to reflect current priorities. A common agenda would include:
Business Review - what wins, changes and challenges have occurred since the last time we met with the client?
Strategy Review - review where current initiatives stand, do changes need to be made based on business considerations, and do any updates require reprioritizing or changing the plan?
Gap Analysis - have gaps been identified in process, systems, security, and user training since the last time we met with the client?
IT Roadmap Review - initiative budget and forecast review. Do schedules need to be updated or refreshed?
Action Item Review - discuss all identified action items, owners, and next steps agreed to by the team.
Next Meeting - answer any questions and confirm the date and time of the next Strategic Business Review.
The SBR is focused on business and not technology issues. It is designed as a business discussion. The intent is to align the client's business objectives with the IT environment, show the progress made, and outline what needs to be done over the coming months. We want to get to the business issues that are most pressing and impactful on the client's business.
The purpose of Fractional vCIO Coaching is to ensure that everyone on the team understands the approach being taken and the desired outcomes you are looking to achieve. It is important to see how the plan, actions, and results all tie to growing the business and relationship with the client.
This is achieved by actively communicating and outlining the who, what, when, and why of what we are looking to achieve from both a strategic and tactical perspective.
